Thales announced a new venture with Canada’s PAL Aerospace to provide a maritime surveillance aircraft (MSA) as a service, known as Force Multiplier, and revealed new developments in its Airborne Maritime Situation Control System (AMASCOS) surveillance mission management system at the 2017 Paris Air Show.

Michael Sangster, chief commercial officer for PAL, said that a number of countries that had identified a requirement for a MSA capability did not have the budget or the expertise or the time to procure their own aircraft. The Force Multiplier concept would provide a leased aircraft – operated and maintained by PAL – available for worldwide deployment for a fixed number of hours annually or for a specific short-term requirement.
