  1. My Grandad was in the 19th Canadian Field Artillery in WW1 and he finished up totally deaf. I hope those soldiers realise that they need ear protectors, especially if it’s just a practice.

    1. You must be very proud of your Grandfather John. The artillery have long suffered from deafness due to a lack of ear protection. I am reminded of the Robin Williams joke in ‘Good Morning Vietnam’ when the fictitious artilleryman called into the radio station:

      DJ: We’re talking out in the field today. Hi, what’s your name?

      Bob: “My name’s Bob Fliber!”.

      DJ: Hi Bob, what do you do?

      Bob: “I’m in artillery!”

      DJ: Thank you, Bob. Can we play anything for you?

      Bob: “Anything! Just play it loud! Okay?”
